Windows Caption Writer Installation

After downloading the file, you should have a zipped file named hscapwriter.exe on your hard drive. When you double click on this file a window opens for you to select the location in which the Caption Writer files should be installed on your computer.

We suggest that you unzip the files into the Programs folder of your C drive. After unzipping you'll have a folder named HS Caption Writer filled with all the needed parts.

Once you've unzipped the HS Caption Writer files, there are just a couple of simple steps to ensure they operate properly for you.

Inside the HS Caption Writer folder is the HS Caption Writer itself and a folder named Panorama*. Open the Panorama folder and double click on the Panorama.exe inside. (It's the one with an icon of a cube with a ball inside.) This runs the installer which only requires an instant.

When the installer is finished, restart your computer.

From now on you can launch the program by opening the HS Caption Writer file located inside the HS Caption Writer folder.

Be sure to keep HS Caption Writer, HScw Resources and Panorama together, in the same folder. They need each other.

Be sure to review the documentation included in the folder. There are many features you'll never know about otherwise. HS Caption Writer.pdf is a PDF file that can be read or printed using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader available from Adobe.com.

* If you have a working copy of Panorama 4.0 or later on the same computer, discard the Panorama folder in this folder to avoid conflicts.

Adding a Shortcut

In this window, click on the Add button. A window entitled Create Shortcut opens. Click on Browse to locate your HS Caption Writer files.

On your C drive, locate the folder named Program Files and open it. Now locate and open the folder named HS Caption Writer. If the Files of Type option at the bottom of the window is set to All Files you should see names and icons for all of your HS Caption Writer files. Select the HS Caption Writer file, or any other HindSight file, and click on Open to return to the Create Shortcut window. Click on Next.

Windows now offers you the chance to determine where in the Start menu this Shortcut should appear. *Select the Start menu folder at the top of the list and click Next if you want HS Caption Writer to be listed at the top of the Start menu.

Click Next, rename the shortcut if you wish and click Finish.

Oh, and you might want to close the Taskbar Properties window.

You can also right-click and drag the HS Caption Writer icon to the shortcut tray on your Windows Taskbar.
